Latest Septic Inspection Results

Below is the latest update from the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) on the Septic Tank Ordinance. The findings of the 543 septic inspections received as of 10-2-2024, by the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) from Lyon Township, are as follows:

Of the 543 received:

  • 256 are in compliance with no action required
  • 146 in compliance with action recommended
  • 141 are not in compliance
  • 92 did not meet isolation – (the well is closer than safe standards to the septic system)
  • 44 are substandard – (less than 50% of current code size requirements)
  • 31 have major septic tank deficiencies – (cracks, leaks, etc.)
  • 8 – did not meet the minimum criteria due to more minor issues
  • 7 did not meet minimum criteria – (due to backup of the system)
  • 5 had no system identified – (not found)
  • 2 did not meet minimum criteria – (due to lack of maintenance)
  • 1 failed due to bypass of the system
